Juxtapositions
In this body of work entitled “Juxtapositions”, I have continued the exploration of imagery from photographs I have taken in my travels. For each painting I have chosen two images to juxtapose. The pairings were based on similarities I found between the two chosen images or perhaps different views of the same place.
As I have always been drawn to unconventional beauty, I was not only interested in the literal juxtaposition of two images, but also intrigued by layering graffiti imagery (what some might deem as "low" art) within the context of an oil painting hung in a gallery (what some might deem as "high" art). There's also the juxtaposition of collaging copies (something that can have endless multiples) with a one-of-a-kind painting.
